Médard recessed: a subtle star is born
Inspired by the quirky legs of a mantis, the original Médard quickly sparked a love affair with the architectural lighting world and soon came to be a highly recognized iconic family. And just like for another one of Modular’s latest families – Pupil, also designed by Basten Leijh – nature inspires experimentation. Modular addressed its club of light lovers by turning one design into several applications. The Médard family soon exploded to become what it is today: a celebration of modularity that can embellish any surface and give spaces a supernatural edge. Our latest addition, Médard recessed, is the starry expression we were all waiting for.

If you’re looking to complement your Médard expression with more of Médard while not charging your space, Médard recessed’s minimalistic approach is your answer. Our inviting luminaire honours the family’s signature look with its soft and curved outside ring, and matte black inner ring. Imagine subtle Médard stars in high-end ceilings, in white or black structure, keeping company to a more commanding Médard track spot, surface mounted, or Médard stretched. Together, striking the perfect balance.

Making a name for itself amongst architectural circles for its design and modularity, Médard’s graceful shape further adapted to many spaces and styles. No wonder it’s won the Good Industrial Design award when it first saw light, and the IF Design Award later on.
New applications for this design are how we show our appreciation for the interior designers we work with. With Médard, we pursued modular design itself, and extended the portfolio to welcome plenty of applications. Médard 70 began its early days as a table top, a stand-alone surface-mounted and semi-recessed luminaire for wall or ceiling, and spot for our 230V track. It extended into Médard stretched in two lengths, and with 1x or 2x lamp units. Médard 42 for our Pista track 48V, in 1x or 2x lamp units, or simply stand-alone as a semi-recessed application joined the family soon after.

Médard recessed is available in two sizes, 42 and 70, and offers a fixed light source with medium or flood beam angle. It is IP55 rated and perfect for hospitality spaces such as wellness centres, or high-end kitchens or bathrooms. Try Médard and experiment just how far you can play with this epitome of modularity.
